Treatment ofTEEN BEHAVIOR DISORDER

• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT examines how one thinks and acts in order to develop tools to help him/her become more in control of their thoughts and actions, and behave in a constructive manner.

• Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT involves individual therapy sessions using cognitive treatment, and weekly skill group sessions. The skill group sessions last for approximately six months, focusing on mental, emotional and distress tolerance skills.

• Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
IPT studies relationships and is usually used as a short-term treatment. It focuses mainly on improving communication skills, identifying emotions, and correlating events, feelings, and expressions.

• Mindfulness-based Therapies
These therapies develop skills to encourage the individual to pay focused and specific attention, to keenly observe events without reacting and forming judgment in order to prevent negative outbursts, and allow space for more positive and effective reactions.

• Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic therapy studies the effect of childhood relations on development. It helps to increase self-awareness, while enabling an understanding of the subconscious feelings and fears, and ways to effectively deal with them, and adapt in a healthy manner.

• Group Therapy
Members meet regularly and are encouraged to discuss issues during interactions with their families and the therapist. Unbiased feedback is offered and confidentiality of all personal information shared is maintained. Group therapy is helpful because it provides a safe space for objective feedback and reflection.

• Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
This therapy focuses on providing effective tools in order to handle all types of emotions, with a specific look at self and past relationships. Patients are encouraged to actively face their emotions, feelings, and fears and actively attempt to resolve uncomfortable issues, rather than avoiding them as may have been the easier route in the past.

• Family Therapy
Family therapy involves the family and the family dynamic as key factors for the patient’s recovery and sustained wellness. A therapist may combine family therapy with any other therapy if necessary, stressing the role of open and honest communication and compassionate understanding between family members.

• Play Therapy
Play therapy provides an understanding, safe and sympathetic environment for a teenager where he/she is provided with an opportunity to learn to cope up with their disorder and acquire new tools to modify negative behavioral patterns. Play therapy allows for unlimited exploration without any boundaries, encouraging the teen to express him/herself through the use of art, dance, storytelling, drama, role-play, or creative visualization. Through this healthy and unlimited exploration, teens become free to express themselves, become more self-aware and identify appropriate behavioral norms.
