About Our Adolescent Programs Near Sherman Oaks

Beachside Teen is a CARF-accredited residential treatment center serving families throughout the San Fernando Valley, including Sherman Oaks and the surrounding communities.

We treat adolescents exclusively. That distinction matters. Everything about our program is designed specifically for teenagers. We understand how the adolescent brain works, how teens process emotion and trauma, and what it takes to create real, lasting change at this stage of life.

Our facility sits on the Malibu coast, offering a calm, structured setting where teens can step away from daily stressors and focus entirely on getting better.

How We Help Teens

Teens who come to Beachside are rarely dealing with just one thing. More often, there are layers. A mental health condition driving substance use, trauma underneath the anger, anxiety behind the withdrawal.

We help teens get to the root of what’s going on.

Our clinical team takes a comprehensive approach, addressing mental health, behavior, substance use, family relationships, and academic needs all at once.

The goal isn’t just to stabilize your teen. It’s to give them the tools, the insight, and the confidence to move forward in a healthier way.

What Can I Expect as a Parent?

The idea of placing your child in a residential program can bring up a lot of emotions, including fear, guilt, uncertainty, relief. All of it is understandable.

Here’s what parents can expect at Beachside Teen:

You’ll start with a phone call to our admissions team. We’ll listen to what’s been happening, ask some clinical questions, and help you understand whether Beachside is the right fit. From there, we’ll verify your insurance and complete a thorough assessment before your teen arrives.

Once your teen is admitted, you stay involved. Family therapy is a central part of our program. We hold regular sessions, keep you informed throughout treatment, and help you prepare for your teen’s transition home. Healing is a family process, and we treat it that way.

Beyond the logistics of admission, many parents want to know what the day-to-day experience will feel like for them. At Beachside Teen, you can expect honest, consistent communication from our clinical team. You’ll know how your teen is doing, what they’re working on, and what progress looks like for them specifically.

You’ll participate in regular family therapy sessions both during your teen’s stay and in preparation for their return home. Our team will help you understand your teen’s diagnosis, what drives their behavior, and how to respond in ways that support their recovery rather than unintentionally undermining it.

By the time your teen is ready to come home, you’ll feel prepared.

Our small group environment means your teen won’t get lost in the shuffle. Every client receives close, individualized attention from our clinical team throughout their stay.

How Do I Know My Teen Needs Treatment?

This is one of the most common questions parents ask, and one of the hardest to answer on your own. Some signs are more obvious than others.

Consider reaching out if your teen is:

  • Using alcohol or drugs regularly, or in dangerous ways
  • Withdrawing from family, friends, or activities they used to enjoy
  • Struggling significantly in school or refusing to attend
  • Experiencing persistent depression, anxiety, or extreme mood swings
  • Engaging in self-harm or expressing thoughts of suicide
  • Acting out with aggression, defiance, or risky behavior
  • Dealing with an eating disorder
  • Unable to stop a behavior even when they want to

You don’t need certainty before making a call. Our admissions team can help you assess the situation and figure out the right level of care.

Benefits of Choosing Beachside Teen

Beachside Teen is a CARF-accredited, teen-only residential program.

This means every aspect of care is designed exclusively for adolescents ages 12–18. Our small group setting allows for more individualized attention, stronger peer connections, and a more personal treatment experience. And because we know academics matter, our Therapeutic Education Program keeps teens on track with school throughout their stay.

What truly sets us apart is our commitment to the whole family. Parents are active participants in their teen’s recovery. Our Malibu facility provides a calm, scenic space away from everyday triggers, and our approach has earned us a 4.9-star rating from families across Southern California and beyond.

Insurance and Paying for Treatment

We know that cost is often one of the first things families think about and one of the biggest barriers to getting help. We want to make this part as simple as possible.

Beachside Teen works with most major insurance providers, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, and UMR. Our admissions team will verify your benefits at no cost to you, before you make any decisions or commitments.

We’ll walk you through exactly what’s covered, what your out-of-pocket costs may look like, and what options are available to your family.

Meet Our Team

Your teen’s care is delivered by a team of licensed therapists and education specialists with extensive experience in adolescent behavioral health. Our clinicians don’t just treat symptoms. They take the time to understand each teen as an individual, building trust and tailoring care to what that specific young person needs.

Our staff-to-client ratio is intentionally small, allowing for more one-on-one care. Every member of our team is here because they believe in this work and in the potential of every teenager who walks through our doors.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Treatment length is determined by your teen’s individual clinical needs. At Beachside Teen, we use a 90-day framework as our standard for meaningful, lasting change.

Some teens transition to a lower level of care before that mark, while others benefit from a longer stay. Our clinical team reassesses progress regularly and will always recommend what’s in your child’s best interest.

Our admissions team will provide a detailed packing list when you enroll. In general, teens should bring comfortable clothing, personal toiletries, any prescribed medications, and items that support their comfort and sense of home. Our team will walk you through any electronics or personal item policies during the admissions process.

A recent report by Blue Shield of California and Children Now found that approximately 94% of California’s young people experience regular mental health challenges, with one in three describing their mental health as “fair” or “poor.”

The findings also revealed that youth of color and LGBTQ+ youth are disproportionately affected, and that more than a third of those struggling felt too embarrassed to seek professional help.
